Design Process

Concepting

This was my third game jam, and for this, the grouping were randomized. My group was filled with people who were already skilled and had exceptional talent, leaving me as the only newbie.

The theme given to us for this Game Jam was Saving Energy. Discussing with my team, we decided to a simple game that represented the core idea of saving energy

Pre-Production

Although I was the only designer, everyone already knew what to do since we had already informed and delegated the tasks the moment we got the theme. Everyone was quick with their work, leaving me to think of what to do. I then resorted back to doing the sound design for the game.

Production

During this phase, I honestly felt a bit pressured because I was the only newbie in a group full of experienced people. Also due to time constraints on my own end of personal assignments, I wasn't able to record sound on my own like last time. Hence I resorted to gathering copyright-free sound from the internet for this assignment.

I also communicated with my group asking them if we needed any specific sounds that I didn't already have in my sound files, to which they provided.

Although this Game Jam I didn't feel was as good as my first 2 Game Jams, I actually enjoyed working with these experienced people as I was also able to get some insights of the game industry as well as some advices on how I should communicate with my team in the future on my student group games. At times I also did feel a bit useless as I wish I could've done a lot more to help out, but my skills were limited with what I could do. Still, this Game Jam was very much a useful learning experience for me.

Game

Unfortunately I do not have any video, screenshots, and gameplay to showcase the game. However, the game can be downloaded on itch.io here.
